Joanna is the twin of King Joffrey. Her birth and first years of life were marked by a duality of light and darkness between the two brothers that led the lords to give them the nickname "two sides of the coin," plus Joanna possessed the same darkness as her brother or perhaps worse.Early years and educationJoanna was named after her late grandmother. Ante la llegada de Margaery, la situación entre los gemelos cambia. Joanna puede sentir que Joffrey está más distante de ella, y más cercano a la Tyrell, lo cual no hace más que acrecentar un odio que ya venía siendo fogueado por la desconfianza que la joven leona sentía ante la rosa de Highgarden. En palabras de la propia Joanna, Margaery sólo traía consigo un aura oscura, de muerte y falsa bondad.
Estas sospechas parecieron ser ciertas cuando su gemelo fallece. Claro que Joanna, no sabe quién orquestó la muerte de su hermano, pero sí cree que tuvo que ver con Margaery, por lo cual, la relación entre ambas mujeres se vuelve aún más hostil.
La muerte de Joffrey la dejó incompleta, vacía, como si una parte de ella hubiera fallecido en la boda púrpura.
